A Physician’s Role in a Med Spa

Dr. Guljeet Sohal is the owner of Balle Bliss, a luxury med spa based in her hometown of Cypress, Texas. She is proud that she is not just the figurehead of her spa, she is actually the one doing all the injections and meeting with each and every patient on an individual basis. Here she explains why:
A physician’s role in a med spa depends on the med spa itself. Each one is different. Some employ estheticians and just have the doctor serve as a medical director. Sometimes, the doctor is not much more than a figurehead.
At Balle Bliss med spa, we take a different approach. I am actually meeting with each and every patient myself. That means I do a one-on-one consultation with every individual, discuss the problems they are having and the various treatment options I can offer them.
When the consultation is over, I am actually the one who does all the injections of dermal fillers, and the one who does all the BOTOX. I do all of that myself, as well as perform all the PIXEL laser resurfacing and other types of treatments.
Trained Doctor on Staff
There’s a simple reason why I do so much of the work myself. It’s better, and it’s safer. I am a trained doctor, and my knowledge of anatomy, of the face, is much better than that of an esthetician.
I have also been trained in the field so my injections have better results. I am trained in administering BOTOX as well as administering different types of dermal fillers, and I know exactly what I am doing and why.
Knowledge of Specific Techniques
As I am a physician, I am trained in advanced dermal filling, which is a mid-based injection, recreating cheeks or helping underneath the eyes, that should not be done by general injectors.
Also – which is very important – if there is any complication, I am right there. I can take care of it right away, there is no need to waste valuable time waiting for the physician to arrive.
Making an Informed Decision
When people are checking out a med spa and making a decision on whether it is the right one for them, they should look and see who the physician is, if they are actually regularly on-site, or if they are just a figurehead. Sometime the physician is not there, sometimes he or she is only there once a week and actually runs a string of other businesses. Sometimes he or she has just “loaned” the medical spa their name.
For peace of mind, when you go to a med spa, you should know where the doctor is at all times, and how involved they are in their business. Your safety could depend on it.
