Are All Fillers the Same?

In the past few years women—and even a large majority of men—have taken aging into their own hands. While you cannot reverse the time on the clock, you can reverse the signs of aging. For the lines on your face that you just can’t seem to cover up with make-up, Barry Schwartz M.D., an experienced plastic surgeon in Ft Lauderdale, Florida at Weston Center for Plastic Surgery, Inc. recommends scheduling a consultation to discuss the benefits of fillers.
The shared goal of fillers is to add volume to the areas of your face that have been affected by age. However, Dr. Schwartz says, there are options available when it comes to the type of filler that is best used for a particular treatment. Popular fillers, he explains, include Juvederm, Restalyne, and Radiesse, but there are differences between them.
In addition to these types of fillers, which are injected right under your skin for instant results and are used by millions of people each year, Dr. Schwartz explains that there are permanent fillers as well. While the average filler will last anywhere between six months to a year, the alternatives are implanted underneath your skin as opposed to injected. Through this method, he says, you can choose to permanently alter the appearance of your lips, cheeks, chin, and nose. While these are not traditional fillers, Dr. Schwartz adds, they do serve to add volume to your face.
As fillers become more commonplace and patients return for routine appointments, doctors have found that the procedures continue to progress. Many people have come to discover, Dr. Schwartz says, that by their third round of filler treatments, their results start to last longer than originally anticipated–a very welcomed side effect.
How long your treatment can be expected to last also depends largely on the area being treated. For instance, Dr. Schwartz says, since the nose is basically immobile, lines filled around this feature tend to last longer than around the mouth, which is constantly being used throughout the day. Furthermore, as physicians continue to inject fillers ,they have started to pinpoint which fillers work best for patients’ needs.
Now, Dr. Schwartz says, fillers can really be used all over the face. Typically targeted areas include frown lines, in between the eyes, lines that form from the nose to chin, and depressed areas in the lower lids and cheeks. You can even use a filler to smooth out a scar that you would like to eliminate.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to reverse the signs of aging and rejuvenate your appearance, few treatments offer the results that fillers do. Even if you are apprehensive about altering your appearance, many physicians suggest starting with one, small area of the face to gauge your results. Chances are that once you see one line disappear, you will be anxious to watch the rest of them fade as well.
