Are the Results of Liposuction Permanent?

The results that can be achieved through liposuction depend heavily on patient selection, explains Dr. Asher Carey of Carey Medispa in Dover. Liposuction is a procedure that requires careful patient selection on the part of the plastic surgeon to ensure that patients will be able to achieve the results they expect.

Dr. Carey goes on to explain that the ideal patient for liposuction at his Dover practice is an adult who has deposits of fat that he or she cannot seem to get rid of. Liposuction is not a procedure for someone who is terribly overweight, and it should not be considered a diet plan for people who are not interested in eating sensibly or working out moderately. The length of time that a person can expect the results from his liposuction procedure to last is directly proportional to his interest in regular exercise and sensible eating.

Age is much less of a consideration when selecting candidates for liposuction than skin elasticity and weight. At Dr. Carey’s practice in Dover, liposuction patients in their 30s are just as frequently selected as good candidates for the procedure as patients in their 50s and 60s. As long as the patient is close to the normal weight – and assuming the person still has relatively elastic skin – then Dr. Carey says liposuction can be a great way to get rid of distinct deposits of fat in certain areas of the body.

Dr. Carey explains that he will soon be performing liposuction on a patient who has excess fat in her tummy and waist areas. She will be getting the procedure along those areas in order to bring those sections in line with the rest of her shape. Dr. Carey expects to achieve fantastic results for this patient, however, she will have to remember to eat sensibly and exercise moderately going forward if she wants to maintain the effect that the surgeon has created.

Liposuction is a procedure that can be performed in a number of ways today; however, all of these methods are similar in that they remove the fat through a small incision placed in an unnoticeable area of the body. The recovery from these procedures is extremely fast, and Dr. Carey says most patients at his Dover liposuction practice are back to work within two to three days. More vigorous activities, such as working out and riding bikes, can be returned to within a few weeks from the date of the surgery.
