If you have noticed fine lines and wrinkles gathering around your eyes and forehead region, you are not alone. Wrinkles and lines are all a result from years of muscles used from reactions to life’s many situations. Over time, these muscles will create creases in the skin that aren’t always so flattering. For many people BOTOX is an attractive option because the treatment can relax these muscles and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Daniel Kort of Renew Clinic and Spa in Salem, OR discusses how BOTOX can help facial aesthetics, and what patients can expect from the procedure.
BOTOX, short for botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxin that when injected into the facial region will act as a mild paralytic to a person’s facial muscles. This reaction results in a smoother facial appearance, and can reduce many of the wrinkles associated with age and stress. Dr. Kort says that because it is a mild treatment that is not permanent, many patients are good candidates for BOTOX. Many people are excited to hear that they will see results days after the first treatment. Dr. Kort says that on average it is around day seven that results are apparent. The relaxed muscles will remain in this state for about three to four months following treatment. At this point, a patient can return to the office for additional treatments if so desired.
BOTOX in Salem, OR can be of interest to people in all walks of life. Dr. Kort sees patients that are young and wanting to prevent wrinkles from setting in; and he also treats the patients where wrinkles are present and they would like to reduce them as quickly as possible.
The good news about the procedure itself is that it is quick and can be kept under one hour. He first applies a topical anesthetic so patients will not feel as much irritation. Depending on how many areas need treatment, Dr. Kort says the administering takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
He also advises that immediately after the treatment a patient should not lie down. He wants the circulation to be strong, so staying upright will help facilitate this goal. He also tells patients not to rub or massage their face and agrees that vigorous exercise is probably best to be avoided.
When it comes to concerns that patients have at this Salem, OR med spa, many have voiced that they are nervous about a toxic substance being injected into their body. Dr. Kort explains that the amount of toxin being used for BOTOX purposes is extremely diluted and small. He says it would take around 3000 units of the substance to do any harm, and his treatments only use around 30-100 units, so the risk is greatly reduced when used in this fashion.
