Can I Get Multiple Procedures Done at Once?

Anyone who typically maintains a busy schedule will agree that time is one of life’s most precious commodities. For this reason, the average body-conscious individual is less than likely to have an unlimited amount of time to dedicate to cosmetic procedures. If you’re looking to have plastic surgery done, but are pressed for time, then you may be in luck. Dr. Miguel Yanez is a cosmetic surgeon with board certification at Piedmont Plastic Surgery & Dermatology’s Hickory and Gastonia, North Carolina locations, and according to him, having multiple cosmetic procedures performed at the same time is an option. In fact, it’s actually quite typical for Dr. Yanez to perform what he likes to refer to as a “combined procedure.”
In Dr. Yanez’s experience, patients looking to improve their bodies will commonly request two complementary procedures such as breast augmentation and abdominoplasty (better known in non-medical speak as a tummy tuck). From a logistical and safety perspective, there is generally no reason why a patient can’t undergo breast augmentation and tummy tuck at the same time. Among those who are more concerned with their faces, requests for face lifts and eyelid surgery tend to be rather common.
When it comes to cosmetic procedures of any kind, patient safety should be a surgeon’s number one priority. While Dr. Yanez will do his best to perform multiple procedures at the same time to make life easier on his patients, he will never agree to do it if it means jeopardizing a patient’s health. After all, a patient should really only be placed under anesthesia for so long, and the body can only handle so much trauma at a time. Therefore, although Dr. Yanez is happy to perform multiple procedures on the same day when the circumstances allow for it, he thinks that patients should realize that the operating room is not a free for all. One cannot expect a doctor to agree to perform numerous procedures on the body all day long. On the other hand, as long as a request for a combined procedure will result in a patient being in the operating room for a reasonable amount of time (thereby reducing the degree of risk involved), Dr. Yanez will generally be able to accommodate.
So is it actually better to undergo two procedures at once? According to Dr. Yanez, under safe circumstances, having multiple procedures done at once actually comes with one major benefit. Any type of surgical procedure is bound to result in a degree of subsequent downtime for healing purposes. By undergoing multiple procedures at once, a patient can consolidate her overall recovery time. This is quite the ideal arrangement for those who have limited time at their disposal.
If you’re the type of person who’s perpetually busy, then time is no doubt one of your most valued assets. Rather than put yourself through the logistical hardship of scheduling multiple cosmetic surgeries over the course of a year, talk to your surgeon about the possibility of undergoing two procedures at once. As long as the notion doesn’t compromise your health in any way, he is more than likely to say yes.
