Botox, on the other hand, when injected, has an outer shell that needs to be broken down before it reaches the muscles.

Scientists in this particular company started questioning why they should even have to manufacture a Botulinum Toxin with these protective, complex proteins. So they came up with the idea of this naked, non-complex, unprotected protein called Xeomin that works “just as well as our regular Botox treatment in Philadelphia, PA,” says Benedetto.

Although they’re different, Xeomin and Botox share a similar botulinum toxin type, being type A. Type A is the most widely-used, and considered to be less intrusive and artificial than other types of plastic surgery. The 7 neurotoxic types of botulinum toxin, types A, B, C1, D, E, F, and G have different forms and functions. Type-A works is used specifically in cosmetic practices to prevent the development of wrinkles by paralyzing facial muscles.

Part of doing this research is knowing the right things to ask. Dr. Turok advises people to ask their friend, family members, and colleagues for personal recommendations. If that doesn’t turn up anyone good, then he recommends contacting a few offices to find someone who specializes in this type of cosmetic surgery in Chicago.

Once a patient has narrowed down the choices, Dr. Turok recommends meeting the surgeon in person and asking some pointed questions to find out how much experience he has in laser liposuction, specifically, and how long the person has been performing this procedure for. Ideally, the surgeon performing laser liposuction should have plenty of experience in this arena, and he should have a roster of previous clients who would be willing to share their stories.

Although each company is trying to claim superiority, Dr. Turok believes Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all good products for men and women with a number of cosmetic complaints.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all approved for treatment of the glabellar lines, which are the vertical frown lines between the eyes. Sometimes the glabellar lines encompass horizontal frown lines between the eyes, as well. However, Dr. Turok explains that most physicians use botulinum toxin in an off-label fashion, which is okay by the FDA.

At his practice in Chicago, Botox is used to treat horizontal forehead lines, worry lines, crow’s feet, smile lines, and bunny lines, which are the lines that develop around the sides of the nose when people smile or scrunch up their faces. Botulinum toxins can also be helpful in reducing smokers lines, which are the vertical lines around the lips. Dr. Turok says non-smokers can sometimes get these lines, as well, if they drink out of straws too frequently.
