Get Back Your Body Back After Pregnancy

Pregnancy can take its toll on the body, and even for those who work out regularly, getting back in shape after giving birth can be quite a feat. That’s why so many new mothers are trying out a relatively new procedure known as Lipo Ex, according to Dr. Alexandra Lambrou. Currently the medical director at Sculpt Medical Spa in Chicago, Lambrou says she hears from countless new mothers looking for advice on how to get back the tight abs they had before becoming pregnant. And she often suggests Lipo Ex as a possible treatment option.
Lipo Ex is a relatively new fat and cellulite reduction treatment that uses radio waves to heat your fat cells. When heated at the proper temperature, these fat cells will become porous and eventually drain into the body’s lymphatic drainage system to be secreted naturally from the body over time. Lambrou says that she has yet to see anything else could revolutionize the world of cosmetic procedures as much as Lipo Ex.
“In addition to fat reduction, which women obviously enjoy, Lipo Ex also tighten the skin,” Lambrou explains. “So for women who are looking to regain the washboard abs they had before pregnancy, this is a step in the right direction.” She says Lipo Ex can be used to treat both cellulite and loose skin, and that people who have already undergone significant weight loss—such as mothers who’ve recently given birth—can get even more benefits from the tightening aspect of the Lipo Ex than other patients.
Because heat stimulates collagen production within the body, Lipo Ex has been shown to effective at tightening skin and giving it a more youthful look. “Heat stimulates the collagen development in the body,” she says, “so pretty much any area on a patient’s body that we treat will firm right up.” Because of the collagen component, some physicians view Lipo Ex as an accompaniment to traditional liposuction procedures. For new mothers who’ve already lost the weight they gained during pregnancy and just need a way tighten up the skin, though, Lipo Ex is usually enough on all its own.
Of course, patients should not expect to see full results with Lipo Ex in just one session. For most new moms, it can take eight to 12 sessions before optimum goals are reached. “Someone who is in relatively good shape, but just has pesky fat around her abdomen, will probably be able to get away with just six to eight treatments,” Lambrou says. “But in general, eight to 12 sessions is probably more accurate for most patients.”
The number of areas on the body that a patient wants to have treated as well as the size of these areas will increase or decrease the number of treatments he will need. “Someone who is a little overweight will probably need a couple more sessions to reach his goal. But some women we see already have really flat stomachs and their only issues are their love handles, so we can take care of that fairly quickly.” For new mothers who are looking to tighten the skin around the abdomen area, Lambrou recommends planning to have at least eight treatments with Lipo Ex performed, although those with just a “tiny pooch” might need fewer than six. “It really is a personal thing—it’s different for every patient.”
No matter how many sessions are needed to reach the final goal, Lambrou emphasizes that Lipo Ex really is helpful for women who are looking for a way to tighten up their lower abdomen after pregnancy, since oftentimes sit ups alone will not ever be enough to return to their bodies’ pre-baby shape.
