How to Look Like a Younger Version Of Yourself

One of the issues that has traditionally prevented women from trying out cosmetic procedures is an overarching fear that they will end up looking “unnatural” or “plastic” once the procedure has been done. Thanks to the countless improvements that have been made in fine-tuning the various cosmetic enhancements available at medical spas today, however, that fear of looking unnatural is a thing of the past, according to Dr. Caroline Lomboy at Lecada Medspa.

As a physician at a leading med spa in Tampa, Lomboy frequently speaks with patients who are concerned that undergoing a cosmetic procedure will make them look plastic or “pulled back.” The truth, however, is that when patients undergo the right types of non-invasive cosmetic procedures, the results will be that the patients look like natural, younger versions of themselves. “A lot of patients come to us when the fat is slipping down to their chin area, which is causing that marionette type of look,” she says.

Lomboy goes on to explain that non-invasive, volumizing cosmetic procedures are oftentimes the perfect option for women who want to look more youthful without looking overly unnatural or plastic. Rather than pulling or lifting, these procedures simply add volume to the face to replicate the volume that most people had when they were younger.

In the past, the face lift was the first thing many women thought of when it came time to revive their looks. Fewer women are appearing to be interested in the surgical procedure now, however, and one of the reasons is because a face lift itself cannot do anything to add volume back to the face. “Although your skin is pulled taut [with a face lift], you still need volume put in or otherwise it is just going to be skin and bone,” she says. “You still have to pump up the volume with volumizers, or people sometimes get that mannequin-esque look.”

Rather than having a face-lift, which doesn’t address the volume loss that patients go through as they age, Lomboy says that she recommends that patients look into a laser skin treatment such as Fraxel, along with the plethora of fillers that have been introduced onto the market. “The fillers are meant to address both your skin condition and the volume,” she says.

Increasingly, women and men in Tampa are turning to med spas for cosmetic treatments rather than traditional surgeons’ offices. The reason has a lot to do with how many new laser treatments are available for people. Medical spas offer cosmetic treatments that can have just as many benefits as surgical procedures, but without the downtime that is usually required with surgery.

Lomboy says that when a patient comes into her Tampa med spa asking for a tips on looking younger, she will usually bring up the topic of skin elasticity and facial volume, which both decrease as people age. For women who are looking for changes that are even subtler, Lomboy might recommend a round of Botox before moving on to something else. Having one round of Botox done can make a person look more well-rested by relaxing the wrinkles in the face and relieving and paralyzing the muscles, all without creating any tell-tale signs that someone has had “work” done. “For the face, the number one [most popular treatment] is Botox,” Lomboy says.

If someone has Botox and then decides that she would like to take the transformation one step further, then Lomboy says that is the point when fillers will usually come into the picture. “The fillers tend to be most popular around the nasal labial folds, which is that area from the nose to the mouth,” she explains. By combining Botox with laser treatments, women can get rid of wrinkles while improving skin tone. “Then later on, after you have taken care of the skin and have a nice canvas, then we can see where you are lacking in volume and that is where we put in the fillers,” Lomboy tells us. Laser treatments have also been shown to improve the tone of the skin and dramatically reduce any noticeable age spots on the face.

One of the great things about using fillers and cosmetic laser treatments in combination with a new nightly skin regimen—which a Tampa med spa should be able to help out with—is that putting on makeup will oftentimes become an easier process as a result. “With a combination of the laser treatments, not only will you look more rested and youthful, but your skin will be more even-toned – so you will use less makeup too,” Lomboy explains.
