Is Laser Therapy Safe to Treat Spider Veins?

Spider veins can cause untold misery. Although they are usually small and painless, many people believe them to be cosmetically unappealing and unattractive. Yet getting rid of them is a process that is both safe and effective, says Dr. Guljeet Sohal, owner of Balle Bliss luxury med spa in Cypress, Texas.
Laser therapy is one way to get rid of spider veins, but it all depends on their size. If they are too big, they cannot be treated with a laser and will have to be injected with a solution that causes the vein to stick together and seal shut, or what is known as sclerotherapy.
But sclerotherapy can only occur if the vein is big, otherwise the needle is bigger than the vein so the end result will not be successful. People with smaller veins choose laser therapy, which is a lot less painful.
Laser therapy for smaller veins is effective, although you will often need more than one treatment for best effect. And it’s important to remember that eventually the veins will come back, if not those specific ones, than other veins in different areas.
Spider veins are usually there because of gravity and genetics, so there is no real getting rid of them permanently. They appear often due to a pooling of blood in the body, much like varicose veins. They can also appear for other reasons, such as age, genetics, hormonal factors and sun exposure.
Laser therapy sends strong bursts of light at a certain wavelength to penetrate into your skin at the depth of where the vessel is, and then causes it to explode. After it is destroyed, you will see some slight brownish bruising, then it gets absorbed into the body.
Laser therapy is often an option for people, both men and women, who want to get rid of small veins on their faces, legs, ankles and other parts of the body. Keep in mind, however, that while you may find spider veins cosmetically unattractive, they are harmless and are not any cause for medical concern.
