Recovering From a Face Lift

If you’re thinking of having a face lift, then you’re probably a bit apprehensive about the procedure, and understandably so. After all, the fact lift, like all forms of plastic surgery, does require a certain degree of recovery. However, when it comes to face lifts, the healing process is actually not nearly as bad as some might think.
Dr. Miguel Yanez is a highly trained cosmetic surgeon at Piedmont Plastic Surgery & Dermatology’s Hickory and Gastonia, North Carolina locations, and according to him, the face lift recovery is generally pretty painless. The majority of patients who undergo face lifts are given medications to produce numbness across the entire area marked for operation in order to eliminate pain during and after the procedure. In fact, if pain does occur after a face-lift procedure, then it is usually a sign that an associated problem has developed, such as a hematoma or infection (both of which are rare).
The average patient who undergoes a face lift will need to take it easy and allow themselves approximately three weeks to heal following surgery. Incidentally, it usually takes about that long for patients to feel socially presentable again.
The extent of swelling that patients might experience during the three-week face lift recovery period can vary significantly from person to person; some might have minimal bruising, while others might swell to the point where they wouldn’t even dream of leaving the house. However, by the time of the recovery period, the average patient is able to resume his regular activities without worry.
Since the face lift recovery period is so smooth for most people, there usually isn’t much of a need for patients to check into aftercare facilities following their procedures. In fact, Dr. Yanez usually does not recommend this option to patients because it will simply add to the overall cost of the face lift. Instead, those who plan to undergo facial plastic surgery should make sure to ask friends or family members for help during their recovery. When it comes to healing, the first few days are generally the hardest, but with the right amount of support, patients can get through the process without having to spend extra on specialized care.
Following the face lift procedure, patients should expect to schedule multiple appointments following surgery so that their doctor can check up on their healing and overall progress. In fact, Dr. Yanez likes to see each of his patients the very next day after surgery. Otherwise, the timing of follow-up appointments can depend heavily on factors such as healing progress and the need for suture removal. For the most part, Dr. Yanez’s patients are told that they will be monitored over the course of a six-month period.
Recovering from a face lift isn’t as difficult as you might think. If having the procedure is important to you, then the best way to help yourself through the recovery phase is to approach it in an anxiety-free fashion. The first few days following the procedure are the toughest. But after just three short weeks, you’ll be well on your way to a new and improved appearance that you can truly show off to the world.
