Stimulating Collagen Production

One of the many touted benefits of the Lipo Ex procedure is its ability to stimulate collagen production in patients. But what does that really mean? Dr. Alexandra Lambrou says additional collagen development helps the skin remain tighter and look fuller, which provides the youthful look that many of the patients she sees at Sculpt Medical Spa in Chicago are striving for. “Collagen is naturally what gives fullness to the skin, so anything we can do to stimulate its production is going to give people a really nice effect,” she says.
As a board certified medical practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in the industry, Lambrou says she has seen all types of men and women struggle to lower the amount of fat in their bodies with diet and exercise alone. The Lipo Ex technology, however, finally provides people with a non-invasive way to both diminish fat and reduce cellulite without going under the knife or suffering through painful liposuction surgeries.
For older patients especially, this increased collagen production can dramatically improve the youthfulness of the skin across all areas of the body. “As we get older, the collagen in the skin starts breaking down,” Lambrou explains. “But Lipo Ex is really the first procedure of its kind to stimulate this collagen and bring it back while also diminishing fat and cellulite.” Much in the same way that dermatologists have been using lasers to increase the temperature in the skin and stimulate collagen production, Lipo Ex is being used to promote collagen development across the whole body in areas other than just the face. “Obviously, the younger the person is, the better this procedure is going to work,” she explains.
Of course, that isn’t to say that only young patients should seek out Lipo Ex for its collagen stimulating effects. Lipo Ex is a fantastic option for older patients as well, says Lambrou. “Here at Sculpt Medical Spa, we are seeing interest in Lipo Ex from everyone—girls in their 20s are asking for it just as much as women in their 50s and 60s.”
Lambrou says younger girls can expect to see a more substantial result after undergoing fewer Lipo Ex procedures than their older counterparts. “Especially when we are treating superficial fat, the younger girls just seem to respond even better to it than the older women we treat.” Whether it’s their higher metabolisms or just the result of being more active in general, Lambrou says nobody is quite sure why younger woman are able to achieve such a dramatic effect from the Lipo Ex procedure. “But certainly our older patients are still getting really great results, so this is far from just a procedure that only young men or women should get.”
Unlike traditional liposuction, which just breaks down and sucks out fat cells, Lipo Ex shrinks the fat cells within the body and allows the fluid from those cells to drain through the body’s lymphatic system. Because of this, Lambrou says women who are physically active on a daily basis—including those who walk regularly and exercise moderately—can expect to see even better results than their less active peers. Lipo Ex isn’t just a procedure that a physician can perform and the patient can reap the results. Rather, for the procedure to be effective, the patient has to commit to drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly, as well.
While may women are drawn to Lipo Ex because of its collagen development process, Lambrou emphasizes that the procedure is good for much more than collagen stimulation and development. From the shrinking of fat cells to the reduction in noticeable cellulite, the Lipo Ex technology is able to combine the features of a facial laser with the benefits of traditional liposuction, without the pain, downtime, or additional costs.
