Treating Skin Around the Eyes

Dr. Brian Hurley is the owner of Illumination MedSpa in Irmo, South Carolina. The medical spa, located in the Columbia metropolitan area, offers alternatives to liposuction such as Lipo-Ex, Lipotherme, and Vaser Lipo, as well as procedures such as dermal fillers, facials, laser hair removal, laser vein removal, laser skin rejuvenation, and Botox. Here, he discusses treating skin around the eyes.
Treatment of the skin around the eyes can be tricky. The skin around the eyes can be treated with a laser, but this has to be done by an experienced clinician. It is necessary to use intra-ocular eye shields to protect the eye during this treatment. The eye shields rest under the eye lids, rather than on the exterior part of the eye. If these are not used, the laser could cause blindness. Lasers such as the Titan and the Pearl (made by Cutera) can treat the skin around the eyes.
Radio frequency technology procedures such as Lipo-Ex, often used as a non-surgical alternative to traditional liposuction, can be used to treat the skin around the eyes. It results in both skin tightening and the melting of the fat pads underneath the eyes without causing blindness. I perform Lipo-Ex here at Illumination MedSpa. The treatment is designed to increase your body’s core temperature until the fat in fat cells is dissolved, but without damaging other internal organs.
In general, the use of non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as laser frequency (Lipotherme) and radio frequency (Lipo-Ex) do not yield results that are as dramatic as a face lift. But they can be used as a bridge to delay a face lift, or if done early enough, may help you avoid the need for one.
Wrinkles around the eyes can also be treated with a dermal filler, such as Juvederm or Restylane. Both procedures can add volume to lips and correct facial wrinkles, and both are effective almost immediately.
