Understanding Vaser LipoSelection

Dr. Nathan Miller is a board certified cosmetic surgeon and owner of the OKC Lipo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Specializing in all forms of liposuction, Dr. Miller is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, and a prospective member of the American College of Surgeons. Here, he explains what Vaser LipoSelection is and how it works.

Vaser LipoSelection is one of the coolest new technologies that we have available right now for patients. It is an ultrasound-based solution that can remove unwanted fat deposits well and precisely, and without a lot of pain for many patients. And here at OKC Lipo, we have it in use and definitely use it on many different patients on a variety of body parts.

Because Vaser LipoSelection is ultrasound-based, what that means is that the technology itself uses a wavelength that does not damage the surrounding blood vessels or nerves, things like that, while it is melting away the fat. Instead, what the Vaser LipoSelection does is it selectively cavitates, meaning that it pops the fat around the body and essentially melts the fat away, without causing some of the damage that can happen with other technologies. And because this is such an advanced, precise technique that doctors can use, we are finally able to shape delicate areas without worrying about using something that might not be precise enough. So Vaser technology has really erased all that and opened a new door for physicians.

There has been a really big movement in the United States over the past couple of years to do a lot body sculpting with the help of Vaser technology, and there really are some pretty cool things you can do with Vaser these days. From a physician’s perspective, we are able to do a lot of neat things with this Vaser technology that we could never have done in years past.

Although Vaser LipoSelection can be a great option for a lot of different people, we have found that it is a great tool to use on our male patients specifically here at OKC Lipo. The main reason I say this is because, in general, men’s bodies can be a little more fibrotic than women’s bodies. What that term, fibrotic, really means is that this person’s fat and tissue can be a little bit more difficult to plow through. So the issue with fibrotic tissue is one of the reasons that Vaser is a great option for men.

Although there are countless ways the Vaser LipoSelection can be use there are probably about three reasons that we use it the most here at OKC Lipo:

  1. Male Breast Reductions: The most common reason we use Vaser LipoSelection here at OKC Lipo right now is for male breast reduction procedures. Because their tissue is a little more fibrotic than women’s, Vaser has turned out to be a great technology for this popular procedure for a lot of guys.
  2. Cosmetic Revision Procedures: When I am doing a revision procedure to revise the work another physician has done, Vaser LipoSelection is a great option. So it’s great that we have this technology available now to help with revising previous cosmetic treatments and finally giving patients that outcome they desire.
  3. African-American Patients: Oftentimes, I see that African-American patients do really, really well with the Vaser LipoSelection technology. The reason for this is because their tissue and fat can be a little more fibrotic as well, so Vaser is a great way to get through that and deliver fantastic results.

Overall, Vaser LipoSelection is a great tool that we have for delivering patients the cosmetic results that they have always wanted. Ultrasound technology has really changed the way a lot of these procedures are now done, and helped us to better deliver the slimmed down, smoother, and more shapelier physiquies that so many of our patients ask for—all the while with little to any pain or discomfort on the part of the patients themselves.
