What Are the Most Popular Medical Spa Treatments in Phoenix?

A medical spa offers a variety of cosmetic treatments in a medically supervised, spa-like environment. What are some of the most popular treatments to get at a medical spa in Phoenix? Perhaps not surprisingly, Shannon Feltes of West Phoenix Medical Spa says that some of the most popular treatments are those designed to help reverse the effects of overexposure to the sun.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels sometimes involve a little bit of downtime, Feltes says. “Everyone reacts differently,” she says. “If you have particularly sensitive skin, you may experience a few days of minor peeling, flaking or redness after the procedure.” It’s extremely important to avoid sun exposure for several days after a chemical peel and to protect it with a powerful sunscreen thereafter.

Laser Treatments

“What patients are really looking for when they come to a medical spa,” Feltes says, “are non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures. People here are very active, and extensive downtime isn’t something most Phoenix residents find appealing.” For this reason, she says, laser treatments are becoming increasingly popular.  “All of the laser treatments we offer for both face and body are either completely non-invasive or only minimally invasive,” she says, “so they involve little to no downtime.”

One of the more intensive laser treatments available, called Sublative Rejuvenation, often causes some short-term redness or swelling. “But it’s certainly nothing you couldn’t cover up with cosmetics and go on with your normal activities,” she says. Sublative Rejuvenation is used to treat moderate wrinkling, acne scars, superficial skin lesions and other textural irregularities.

While a chemical peel deals with only the surface layer of the skin, Feltes says that laser treatments actually target the skin’s lower layers for longer-lasting results. “A chemical peel will give you a nice glow and very good short-term results,” she says, “but the laser treatments offer more dramatic, longer-term results. They’re actually making the skin more beautiful from within.”

One of the other benefits of laser treatments, she says, is that they can stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen, a type of protein that binds and supports skin cells. As we age, our body’s ability to produce collagen is reduced, causing skin to sag and become wrinkled. Boosting the skin’s collagen production, Feltes says, gives the skin a nice glow, reverses wrinkling, reduces pore size, and helps the skin become tighter and more resilient.
