What Causes Frown Lines Between the Eyebrows?

Frown lines and creases that show up in between the eyes are extremely common as people age, and yet nobody knows for sure what causes them in every case. According to Dr. Dheeraj Kamra of the Center for Aesthetic Medicine, a medical spa in Folsom, CA, frown lines and wrinkles can be caused by external factors, like sun damage, as well as genetics.

Some men and women are more prone to getting wrinkles, regardless of how much they stay out of the sun or what types of products and creams they rub on their faces each night. These people are prone to getting wrinkles because of genetics, and there is very little that can be done preventatively to stop these people from getting frown lines and other facial wrinkles.
Thankfully, Dr. Kamra says there are things that physicians can do to erase those frown lines and wrinkles once they show up. At his medical spa in Folsom, CA, Dr. Kamra says the two most common treatments for men and women suffering from frown lines are Botox and fillers.

Fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane are a popular option for women looking to increase volume in their faces and diminish the fine lines and wrinkles that tend to creep up with age. Fillers work much differently than Botox, in that they are used to replenish the volume that is lost with age. At his medical spa in Folsom, CA, Dr. Kamra says fillers have become extremely common among women and men.

As people age, their faces naturally lose volume. This volume goes away because collagen decreases, and as a result the face generally goes from being shaped like a triangle to being shaped like an inverted triangle. Certain behavioral factors, such as smoke and sun damage, can expedite this process. Rather than melting away completely, Dr. Kamra says the volume that people lose in their faces usually starts to droop. This drooping effect is what causes people to get lines around their nasal labial folds, typically called the parenthesis lines.

The best way to replenish drooping volume is with fillers, or with a combination of fillers and Botox. Finer lines, like those around the eyebrow area, tend to respond equally well to both options. At his medical spa in Folsom, CA, Dr. Kamra offers Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane. He explains that all fillers are mainly made out of collagen. Collagen contains hyaluronic acid, which is one of the chemicals used in most popular filler products.
