What is Hand Rejuvenation?

Observers of the rich and famous always say that you can tell a woman’s age simply by looking at her hands. So how do you keep your hands looking youthful? Dr. Pooja Malik is medical director and aesthetic medicine physician at Mullica Hill Skincare in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, and talks here about rejuvenating treatments for hands.

As we age, our skin can start to appear thinner and can have age and/or sun spots. Those spots are the most obvious sign that a person is aging, or beginning to age. One way to achieve more youthful-looking hands is to do a light-based procedure such as the BBL (Broadband Light) to eliminate a lot of the sun and age spots.

BBL works by emitting a broad spectrum light that gets attracted to cells that have a lot of color, such as age spots. It heats the cells and injures them, making them disperse and disappear. In that way, it gets rid not only of age spots, but also of freckles, rosacea signs and broken capillaries. Several treatments a few weeks are necessary for maximum effect.

Dermal Fillers

Another way is to do soft tissue augmentation, using a dermal filler such as Radiesse or Juvederm.  The filler is placed underneath the skin on the top part of your hands to add body to your hands to create a more youthful appearance by plumping them up. The results are immediate!

Skin resurfacing is also becoming increasingly popular when it comes to hand rejuvenation, a combination of the micro-laser peel with the fractionated treatment. Short bursts of light will make unsightly blemishes disappear, and the hand will look better and younger. Also known as a “laser peel,” it is commonly used on the face as well.

Our hands are constantly being exposed to the elements, so it’s no wonder that for many people, they tend to age faster than the rest of us. If you would like your hands to look as young as the rest of you, a hand rejuvenation treatment may be just what you need.
