What Procedures Are Available to Help People With Saggy Necks?

A number of therapies have been created to help tighten the neck and reduce the signs of aging. According to Dr. Pradeep Sinha at Atlanta Facial Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, the face lift is known as one of the more traditional therapies for women who suffer from sagging skin along the jaw and neck area. However, a number of innovative treatments have recently been introduced that can eliminate this problem with much less downtime.

In addition to the traditional face lift or neck lift, plastic surgeons like Dr. Sinha offer a more limited neck procedure called platysma plication. In layman’s terms, this procedure involves sucking out the fat from underneath the skin and tightening up the muscles. This has the effect of making the neck look tighter, says Dr. Sinha.

The advantage of this procedure is that it can be done through a small one-inch incision underneath the chin, making this an excellent way to get neck tightening underneath the chin without major surgery or a face lift in Atlanta. This procedure could be done in-office in about one hour. Most people elect to do it as an outpatient procedure.

For men only, Dr. Sinha offers a procedure known as a direct neck lift. This procedure is intended to address the “turkey gobbler,” which is the section of skin that people grab and jiggle when they complain about their necks. During a direct neck lift procedure, Dr. Sinha will essentially cut out an ellipse of the skin to get rid of sagginess. Unfortunately, the direct neck lift is only an option that men can take advantage of. The scar associated with this procedure blends in underneath a man’s beard, however it is generally considered too unsightly for most women to go this route.

In addition to the surgical methods, such as a face lift, in Atlanta, Dr. Sinha says a few non-surgical methods exist as well. Most people are familiar with Thermage, which uses heat to tighten up the neck skin, however fewer people know about a new procedure known as Ulthera. Ulthera uses ultrasound energy to tighten the neck. It uses the same premise as Thermage, however it works much more effectively. Plastic surgeons who offer Ulthera can tighten their patients’ necks without any cutting or surgery.

Finally, Dr. Sinha says that he offers one more procedure to help tighten up the neck. In this procedure, he uses a long thread with two needles to essentially stitch up the neck—once it has been numbed, of course. As the needles pass back and forth through the skin, they capture some of the muscle and tighten it up without having to make any cuts. When his stitches are complete, Dr. Sinha brings the thread out at a common point and ties a single knot. The knot is then buried in the skin, making it invisible to the eye. From the skin’s surface, there are no stitches whatsoever.

Dr. Sinha would recommend that any women in Atlanta who want a face lift to eliminate neck sagging take the time to explore all the options that are available before selecting which route to go with their cosmetic procedure.
