The Day of Your Surgery

You will probably also feel groggy and tired. You should plan to do nothing after your procedure but rest comfortably at home.
The Next Few Days
You will likely experience pain the day after surgery. This is because all of the local anesthetic used during your procedure will have worn off. You will be provided with medications to manage pain, which should make you much more comfortable. You should plan to spend the majority of the day resting.
By the second day, you should begin experiencing less pain and may be able to adequately manage with over-the-counter medications. You’ll want to begin moving around a bit, including moving your arms, which may still feel a bit stiff. You will probably be comfortable enough to change out of your surgical bra into a soft sports bra.
By the fourth or fifth day after your procedure, you will probably have minimal, if any, need for pain medication. At this point, it’s fine to begin getting outside and resuming some normal activities. Most breast augmentation patients are able to return to work within a week. Residual swelling and sensitivity will diminish over the next few weeks.
Your Follow-up Appointment
About 10 days after your procedure, you’ll return to the surgery center for suture removal, and the doctor will check your results and your healing process.
Depending on the type of implant used, you may also need to participate in some ongoing monitoring to ensure the long-term health of your breasts and implants. If a saline implant ruptures, the implant will simply deflate in a few hours and your body will absorb the salt water. If a silicone implant leaks, however, you will need to see a doctor immediately.
