Will Your Tummy Tuck Results Last?

Sometimes it seems that no matter how many miles you run or crunches you do, that stubborn belly fat just won’t disappear. Maybe it’s time then to step out of the gym and into your surgeon’s office for a consultation about your concerns and the options that are available to you.
As it turns out, a tummy tuck is a great surgical procedure used to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen. The procedure, explains Marcus Crawford M.D., an Atlanta surgeon who specializes in tummy tucks, can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding belly.
Prior to approving you for a tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Crawford explains that he always wants to establish the type of diet and exercise program that you are currently on. If you are presently in the middle of a rigorous workout routine or plan to lose more weight after the treatment, it may be best if your tummy tuck is delayed. It is always preferred that the surgery is performed when you are at a stable weight, he says, because it provides more predictable results and reduces the risk of having sagging skin that can occur with extreme weight loss.
In addition to any expected fluctuations in your weight, Dr. Crawford says that it is also important to discuss where the skin is located that you are most unhappy with, such as your silhouette or thighs. In addition to your stomach, he explains, a tummy tuck can also be used as a great method to contour the hips and flank areas of your body.
As long as you are able to maintain a stable weight after a tummy tuck, Dr. Crawford says, you can expect that the results will last a very long time. A tummy tuck is a great final approach to achieving the look that you want for your body, and although new fat cells will not automatically deposit in that area, if your weight starts to fluctuate greatly, then it will appear as though you did not have the surgery at all. This is why it’s important to understand what the commitment on your part entails prior to the procedure. But if you’re willing to make the effort, then a tighter, firmer tummy could be yours.
