Zero Reduction Veneers

What Are the Risks?
As the dentist is trying for a perfect fit with the thin veneers, he may have to pull back the gums of the patient. The patient may feel slight agitation and pinching or pulling on the gum while the fitting is done. This can be somewhat uncomfortable and if cut may even leave the gums open for infection.
When the veneers are placed over the patient’s teeth, there have been situations where they have looked too bulky. The veneers can get in the way of many things including the way the person eats, chewing motions, biting movements, speech, and even the way the lips look.
Veneers can actually contribute to buildup of plaque which in turn can become gum disease. This may be due to over contoured teeth. This can especially occur if a person who is not considered the best candidate gets the zero reduction veneer process.
What it all Means?
It seems that as long as you are among the better candidates, you should not have any problems with the no reduction veneers. The veneers would last anywhere from 5 to 10 years and cost approximately $600 to $1,500 per tooth. If you are not the best candidate for zero reduction veneers then other options may include original veneers, bonding, or crowns.
